PSC to host public listening session regarding garbage service in Big Timber, Sweetgrass County

  • January 31 2025

The Montana Public Service Commission will conduct a listening session on Thursday, February 6, 2025, as part of its investigation into complaints about inadequate garbage hauling service in the Big Timber area.

Sweetgrass County and its county seat, Big Timber, are served by Allied Waste, which does business in Montana under the name Republic Services.

After receiving many customer complaints about inconsistent garbage pickups from Republic, Commissioners voted unanimously today to begin an investigation into the company's services. According to the complaints, some areas have gone without garbage pickup service for more than a month.

The public listening session will begin on February 6, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., at the Carnegie Public Library at 314 McLeod St, Big Timber, Montana.

The session will be streamed live on the Commission’s website (psc.mt.gov). Comment may be provided in-person, by telephone, or by videoconference. Commenters participating by telephone or videoconference must sign up to receive participation instructions. To sign up, please contact the Commission at (800) 646-6150 or pschelp@mt.gov by 5:00 p.m. on February 5, 2025.

Anyone who requires accommodations in order to attend or participate in the listening session should contact the Commission at (800) 646-6150.
